Matcha & Clay: A Festive Ritual 🍵🏺

Matcha, clay, a little creativity — and a chance to slow down before Christmas.

Christmas can be wonderful.

It can also be a lot.

So this November, we're doing something a little different with our friends at Paula Armstrong Ceramics — stepping away from the festive rush for an evening of matcha, making and getting our hands covered in clay.

Welcome to Matcha & Clay: A Festive Ritual.

Two rituals, one cosy evening

There's something rather lovely about making matcha.

The scoop, the whisk, the little bit of time it takes to prepare it properly — it's a simple ritual that gives you an excuse to pause.

And we think making something with your hands has much the same effect.

That's why we couldn't resist combining the two.

We'll start the evening with Matchaeco, where we'll introduce you to matcha, show you how to prepare and whisk it, and — most importantly — let you have a good taste.

We'll even be serving up a festive cinnamon matcha because apparently cinnamon and Christmas are contractually obliged to go together. 🎄

Then, matcha in hand, it's time to get stuck into the clay.

Make your own matcha set

Under Paula's guidance, you'll hand-build your very own ceramic matcha bowl and whisk stand.

And don't worry if your previous experience with clay extends to absolutely none.

You don't need to know what you're doing. That's rather the point.

You'll be guided through the process while still having plenty of freedom to play around with shapes, textures and finishes — so your finished pieces can actually feel like yours.

No two bowls need to look the same.

In fact, we'd be slightly disappointed if they did.

Once you've made your pieces, they'll stay with Paula at the studio to dry and have their first kiln firing.

Then you'll come back in December for a relaxed glazing session, where you'll choose the colours and finishes for your creations.

After their second firing, they'll be ready for you to collect before Christmas.

And we'll send you home with the matcha essentials

We didn't want you to make a beautiful matcha bowl and then get home and think:

“Right… now how do I actually make matcha?”

So we've got that bit covered too.

As part of the workshop, we'll provide you with everything you need to get started with your own matcha ritual at home:

🍵 30g of Matchaeco matcha

🤎 30g of our Cinnamon Soul matcha

🎋 A bamboo matcha whisk

🥄 A matcha spoon

✨ A matcha sifter

And Of Course Your Amazing Hand Made Ceramic Chasen & Stand

So by the time you collect your finished ceramics, you'll have your own handmade matcha set and everything you need to start using it.

A little more than a pottery workshop

That's what we love about this collaboration.

It's not really just a pottery class.

And it's not just a matcha tasting either.

It's an evening to slow down, make something, learn something new and enjoy being a little bit creative.

You can come along on your own, bring a friend, or make it an early Christmas treat for someone who could use a couple of hours away from the December madness.

There are just eight places, so it'll be small, relaxed and properly hands-on.
